My life is calling me

Before moving to Petrinitsa, a remote village in Greece, Gerasimos, 30, had never even seen a horse. Now, every day is a revelation for the ambitious doctor, who not only rides horses, but befriends such flamboyant characters as shepherds and flute players. The villagers dote on their doctor, and long for him "to find a woman." This is far from Gerasimos' mind, at least until he signs up for English lessons at the nearby town and meets his tutor, Ysatis, 45. His bucolic existence is shattered when he falls in love with this sensitive, enigmatic woman, who feels trapped in a stagnant life in a small town. Like Penelope, she waits for her "Ulysses," a cold, emotionally detached man, Stathis, to return from Germany. Gerasimos challenges her to step out of her confinement and live more authentically; he brings his music to the classroom, and teaches her to dance. The final dance will be a public one, symbolic of her liberation from the past. Yet, tragedy strikes that night, and she is forced to accept Stathis' proposal for marriage, feeling guilty for having stepped out of her boundaries. Gerasimos now faces his own struggles, as he must decide whether to pursue her in Berlin, where she has left with Stathis, or to stay and continue the path he had set out for himself. His interaction with the villagers have taught him to seize the moment, and he flies to Berlin , posing as a plumber. Through a series of coincidences, he ends up making a 'house call' of a different kind, this time to fix a pipe at Stathis' apartment. In a humourous, ill-fated attempt to convince Ysatis to follow him, he reveals that he has found out Stathis is using her once more to see more of her stunning niece, Marlena. Ysatis sends him away, and he returns to Greece alone. Only on his last day at the village does Ysatis arrive in the middle of a snowstorm, to his shock, and the utter delight of the villagers.
