2006-Jun-19 - Todays Log:The Other Me.

The Other Me: A man comes to realize he is living two lives in alternate realities, each time he sleeps in one he wakes in the other. In order to save his sanity he must die in one of his lives so that he can live a full life in the other.

Thoughts:

Other than the obvious supernatural nature of the main concept both worlds would be completely reality based, not science fiction or fantasy type of settings. But perhaps they would take place in different times, so one reality was a period piece.

One of the realities would take place in a modern setting where the main character would start the story out on medication for his narcolepsy. He would stop taking them counter to doctors directions, and that lack of medication would be what allows him to begin to remember his alternate life.

Initially he would believe that the alternate life was no more than a series of vivid dreams. But eventually he will come to believe otherwise. He will find he has knowledge he does not think he could have if he the alternate life was all in his head.

I think it's a great logline. It is uniquely familiar, visual, suggests a climax, and more.

Is this story written yet?

If it's registered with the WGA I think you should start sending query letters (emails). That's a highly marketable idea. If it's not registered, get it protected.

I love your comments. Honest. I'd love if you expanded on that bit about psychological breakdown. What do you mean?

Is there a foreshadowing conflict/meeting/scene in these 20 pages? I thought I made it clear.

If you feel like it, could you tell me what you think my story's about so far. Getting an putside perspective could really help. This is the When lightning strikes part of my blog. The collaboration.

I like the concept. Very intriguing. You can go so many ways with this one.

If he must die in one life to be at peace in the other, then which one will he choose and why? Or does he start to retain some of the characteristics of his other self and carry them into this life, and vice versa? Do the lines eventually become blurred for him? Not knowing which life is which?

Keep pluggin with that one. It's hot.
