Hello!

Posted at 04:23, 2006-Jun-15

Just discovered this site and thought I would join. Not that I don't already have an lj of my own, but hey. You can never have too many, right?

As for me, I'm working on getting my foot in the door for television writing. I don't know how many people around here go for that, as opposed to features, but that's what I'm going to do. I've got spec scripts ready to go and am always working on more. I also have some features, of course, all scifi or action scripts.

My strength is dialogue, and I'm a very good reader, if anyone wants me to take a look. I review now and again on zoetrope.com.

Alas, time to go to work so I can pay the bills. le sigh.

Read? Sh#t yeah.

Hi Nancy,

Bob here. I just found this site last week. Welcome to the doll house. Love it if you read my pages. I wrote a feature; but hearing your enthusiasm about TV makes me curious. I know I've been telling people that looto winners show is a great concept. Usually TV doesn't register on my give-a-shit screen, but this show did. I thought, "What a great idea for a show", I thought, I did. Don't know much about TV writing except you double space dialogue. Love to learn more about it.

Check out my logline in my profile (I think that's where I put it) Still acclimating to this crazy site. I have three or four names: WhenLightningStrikes, Screenwriter1, Robert273, Bob. I don't know why tghey made me do that. Oh well. Hope to read your stufff soon.
Bob

sorry bob!

I can't figure out how the hell to just "respond" to your comment! grrr! help?

in any case, television is what I live for. *grin* I watch insane amounts of it and want nothing more than to be Joss Whedon (Buffy/Angel/Firefly), or Rockne O'Bannon (Farscape/The Triangle), or, well, you get the picture. ;o) all the features I write are actually pilot movies in disguise. I'm praying that one of them gets picked up by the scifi chanel and then picked up as a series. I have entire seasons mapped out for most of my pilot movies, though the chances of *that* happening is slim to none.

right now, I just want to sell a spec script and get hired as a staff writer so I can truly learn the biz.

thanks for commenting and welcoming!

Nancy

Still figuring out how to do this comment and post stuff

Nancy,

Your logline. When is it? Colony conjures images of the 1800's. Are we talking about a period story? Is it scifi? Adding genre to your logline is important to place the reader correctly.

I'm no expert, just a mouthy work-in-progress; but here it goes: I think your logline should start with the main character trying/doing/saving etc. and not a group of people. Using the word, "colonists" expedites two bits of story info (the people and the fact there's a colony).

The divided sisters is interesting, suggests antagonists; but is also vague. Can you think of a better way to describe the sisters to better capture their essence, or their motivation?

What is pulling the colonists apart? What dire consequences might befall them if she doesn't succeed?

I love the last line. "Whoever thought..." Very provocative. Great to end it with a question.

Feel free to disagree, ignore, or mince my stuff to bits.

thanks for the comments, bob! it's a scifi script, hence the use of the word colony, but yeah, I guess someone who doesn't know me might not realize that.
