Name: Tara Cain Gender: Female Birthday: 1975-Dec-22 (Age: 36) Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada About Me "Working in Nova Scotia's film industry for the past 8 years, I have discovered there is not a lot of opportunity for black people to get speaking roles, funding for their movie or documentary proposals, or scholarships for the few film programs here in Halifax. There is not a huge presence on our local TV stations, either. The few black people that have made it into ACTRA, I used to be one, are used over and over again. I am extremely happy they are getting work, but what about the rest of the few hundreds of others that want to break into the industry to act, work on film crews, direct and so on. There is an immense amount of interest and talent for film in the community. This was evident during the shooting of "Poor Boys Game" last summer. I got the amazing opportunity to be a training assistant director, working closely with Mr. Danny Glover. I want to work towards harvesting and showcasing the black community's talent for filmmaking". - Tara Taylor Cain Tara is a female up and coming filmmaker / director. Tara got her start in filmmaking as one of the recipients of the Centre For Art Tapes Scholarship Programs. She choose to pursue a career in film. Tara brought 20 short films ranging from promotional commercials for local black businesses, to music video's, to touching, inspirational documentaries, one of which focuses on a woman's story of battling colorectal cancer, thought to have been "a man's disease". The Media Arts Program provides individuals with little or no previous experience to work with video, audio or new media and to create an independent production.
