A Squashed Reality

2007-Sep-1 - My take

Film is such a powerful medium and simply because it provides food for thought as well as inspiration. Well i don't plan on springing from buildings each time Sam Raimi churns out a Spiderman but there are nuances that are fantastic in providing something to ponder about. This is what i kept in mind when writing my first script which sadly, is fading away because i can't get anyone to read it! Anyway here's my two cents for today...

Imagine how bland life would be if everything we spoke about or discussed had a marked bearing on our lives. You may think that sounds strange but if we didn't spend a little time each day chatting about nonsense, we'd go crazy! It's these pointless conversations that soften life. So many movies have used this to great effect and i think it's much more powerful than a massive explosion or the typical car chase scene.

Just yesterday, a friend and i were talking about what a handshake signifies these days. Before you burst out laughing at how insane i am, think about it! A handshake is nothing more than a formality nowadays and whoever said that a female handshake should consist of a mere finger squeeze? Another simple thought i had concerned crying and the 'lump in the throat'. We couldn't come up with a proper answer for that but i figure it's there to prevent you from speaking when sad!

I think basic conversations are wonderful in a film and this is what i've always admired and incorporated into my screenplay! Next time you're watching a soapie and wondering why no one ever gets the flu, think of me!!
