Two Months Away from UMFF 2006 Short-Film Script Competition

It's Sunday morning. Gospel music is playing. I just got up and am eating breakfast here at the computer. I wanted to start keeping an update on the progress of planning and executing the 5th Annual Urban Mediamakers Film Festival 2006 -- October 13-15, 2006. I'm really excited about the members, volunteers and sponsors that are supporting us this year!

The word about the UMFF 2006 Short-Film Script Competition is spreading like wildfire (deadline for submission is September 1, 2006). We've gotten several calls regarding whether we're accepting feature or TV show scripts. Since this is the first year that we're offering a script contest during the festival, we wanted to start off with a short.

And really, the idea for offering the script competition came in February of this year. We offer quarterly networking events here in Atlanta for mediamakers, and that month our discussion was "Writing Your Screenplay in Three Weeks." Don't scream, with laughter. I know you're saying 'in three weeks -- right!" But the discussion was about putting your thoughts and story together to finish your FIRST DRAFT in three weeks. I teach this workshop and it really works!

Any way -- I made the promise that the Urban Mediamakers would produce one to three short film(s) derived from the feature script worked on from the workshop. Writers submitted treatments for the short film, and we selected one script treatment to produce. I wanted to be able to produce more than one, but at the time, the Urban Mediamakers could only commit to Robin G. White's "The Naptime Adventures of Princess Cynaya."
.

After that decision, we decided to offer the UMFF 2006 Short-Film Script Competition, and, as part of the prize, the Urban Mediamakers will produce the winning script. We're excited to have Scriptologist.com as the sponsor of the first annual competition, and we're anticipating some great scripts! The winner of the script competition will be announced during the Urban Mediamakers Awards Show during UMFF 2006.

If you or someone you know has a short-film script, submit it for the festival. I know there are some great stories out there!

Well, I'm off to making some phone calls for the festival.

Have a great day and I will blog you later!

Cheryle
